Gleniffer Braes Photowalk
Thanks to Fiona Wallace for researching and organising this photo walk
"On Tuesday 30th April we head up to a part of Gleniffer Braes Country Park that is possibly less familiar to non-Buddiesthan the main sections.
***Update***
We will meet at St Peters Church 154 Braehead Rd, Paisley PA2 8NG between 6:50 and 7pm, to make it easier for everyone to find using the above postcode, before heading up to the park.
Our start point is the car park just off the road up to the Paisley Golf Club. The car park is quite small so car sharing would be a good idea. There’s a map attached which assumes that most folk will be coming over the Braes. To get to the car park you have to go right down past the better-known Carpark in the Sky and through Glenburn – to do this turn right off the main Braes road at the Church of Latter Day Saints and then right again at St Peters Church. Watch for the traffic calmingsystem as it is anything but.
We then go on a circular route, heading down into the Glen and taking in the Robert Tannahill references (there’s your homework) and stopping to photograph the various small waterfalls (bring ND filters etc. for water movement images. There is also the (hopefully) highlight of the walk – the Craigie Linn waterfall which in best Taggart fashion was the scene of a murrrrdurrrr. It’s okay – it was long ago and the blue and white tape wasn’t around at the time. Unless it’s been bone dry between now and the evening there should be enough coming over the linn to make it worthwhile.
We then continue on down the glen to the two dams where there are often wildfowl to be found, including grumpy boabs, sorry grumpy swans, hunnerts of ducks and on occasion owls. I have also seen foxes and deer here. There are a couple of small water courses down at the dams as well.
The return leg is back up the hill on the open ground which offers views over Paisley and Glasgow.
Terrain is rough paths and grassland. If it’s been raining it will be a little mucky, especially the bit off the main path that takes us to the Craigie Linn. I will be wearing my walking boots."
The 3 Photo-themes for the evening are:
Water
Flora
Fauna
Upload your 3 chosen images from the night to our competition section on the website by the following Monday evening at midnight.
