Irvine Camera Club’s Community Photography Exhibition was opened by Provost, Anthea Dickson, at the Harbour Arts Centre last week. This exhibition is the culmination of a project we started in 2022 with help from the North Ayrshire Council Locality Fund.
Our Community Photography project has encouraged members of Irvine Camera Club to go out into our local community to work with groups and organisations. Over the past 3 years we have fostered strong relationships with the Arts & Culture Team and their Creative Conversations initiatives.
Photography brings benefits not only to our members but also to the groups we work with, providing a record of activities and giving us a platform to celebrate the fantastic work we all do. It strengthens our community and is good for the mental health of all involved.
Clive Watkins, President of Irvine Camera Club, thanked everyone from Irvine Camera Club who have grasped opportunities over the last few years to take part in this project and who have perhaps pushed themselves out of their comfort zones.
He also thanked the community groups that we have worked with and hoped they had found it as rewarding as we have. We hope that ICC will build on this project and continue to work with local groups over the coming years.
Finally, Clive thanked the Harbour Arts Centre for giving us the space to show what we have achieved, particularly Lynn McNally and her team for the fantastic job they have done in displaying the photographs.
Provost Dickson officially opened the exhibition expressing her thanks to the club for creating a visual record of the vital work carried out by North Ayrshire’s volunteer community.
The exhibition runs until 28th June.
