In the Herald - Focus was on the weather

On a rather dreary and not very inspirational evening last week members of Irvine Camera Club set off on a field trip to Auchincruive on the north banks of the River Ayr.  We had hoped for a pleasant weather for a summer evening strolling around the grounds of the soon to be redeveloped Scottish Agricultural College.  Instead we had to make do with dull overcast conditions with rain always threatening to dampen cameras and spirits even further.

Despite the dull light we persisted with our photographic challenges for the evening.  Everyone was asked to take three images on the following themes:  Architecture, Self Portrait in the environment and a photograph illustrating contrasting ideas or concepts.  Some of our members are still not able to get out and about yet, so we opened the challenge up to them to do in their own time during the week. 

The old college buildings and the imposing Oswald House as well as the bridge across the river proved to be popular subjects for the architecture challenge and they also made appearances in most of the selfies!   The contrast theme proved challenging for everyone with some very different interpretations. 

These field trips are always useful to get folk out of their comfort zone, sparking their creativity as well as an ideal opportunity for everyone to meet up, exchange ideas and learn techniques from each other.  The club will continue to run a programme of outings every couple of weeks throughout July & August before in September we start our new 2020/2021 season at a suitable venue, as well as continuing to allow club members to join in online via Zoom.
