In the Herald - An education in sheer hard work

This week Irvine Camera Club are celebrating the success of one of our members who has recently achieved his HNC in photography. Andy Burns’ (54) interest in photography started off when he began to take photos of abandoned buildings as part of his Urbex (Urban Exploration) hobby. Andy has been regular member of the camera club since 2017. He hit the ground running when he won the Ian Davison memorial trophy in his first year at the club and he then went on to win the Most Improved Photographer trophy in 2019.

Andy credits Irvine Camera Club for their help and encouragement which he says influenced his decision to go to college as a mature student to study photography. Andy thoroughly enjoyed attending college, although freely admits there was a bit more written work than he expected! This was especially challenging given his newly diagnosed dyslexia. His photography portfolio continues to expand and includes landscape, wildlife as well as studio photography. Having now gained his HNC, he will soon be returning to Ayrshire college in Kilwinning to study at HND level.

We are currently running socially distanced field trips and bi-weekly online Zoom meetings, but we hope that for the new season starting in September that we will be able to meet together in person once again.
